The BUNITED Student Diversity Conference was founded by former Boston University alumnus, Victoria Agebelese (CAS '17), in 2016. As a biology pre-med student, she found that there were few opportunities inside and outside the classroom to have stimulating conversations surrounding injustice and social change in our communities. A Rhode Island native, she was inspired by DIVERI (Diversifying Individuals Via Education), an annual conference at University of Rhode Island. This sparked the idea to create a diversity conference at Boston University that not only extended to Boston University students and alumni, but also to the college students all over Boston Greater Area.
The mission of our student-led conference is to provide a safe environment to enhance attendees' cultural competency by recognizing and understanding the social issues that prevail in our society. The purpose of the BUNITED Student Diversity Conference is to encourage the collaboration of students within the Boston collegiate community.
Through the use of workshops, speeches, and interactive activities, we seek to encourage individual growth, advance leadership skills, and open individuals to new perspectives so that they become educated leaders who advocate for social justice and equality, both on and off their college campuses.
